Quality Health Foundation Awards $11,000 Grant to Saint Vincent DePaul Society
Easton, MD—June 8, 2016 - Quality Health Foundation (QHF) - the grant-giving foundation of Quality Health Strategies - has awarded a grant of $11,000 to the Society of Saint Vincent DePaul (SVDP), Saints Peter and Paul Conference, of Talbot County, Maryland. The grant will provide funds to purchase a walk-in refrigerator, which the organization will use to store perishable foods for needy families.
The Society is a world-wide, charitable organization established in Paris, France in 1832. There are 35 Conferences in the Council of Wilmington, Delaware which compares geographically to the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington and serves the Delmarva Peninsula. The Society’s mission is simply to serve the needy.
The local Society serves the needy in Talbot County from their expanding facility on Canvasback Drive in Easton, Maryland. They have approximately 300 volunteers, of which around 200 are actively involved in operations. Last year they provided $170,000 supporting the poor in the County and over half of that amount was for food distributed through the Food Pantry.
“We are thrilled to have the support of the Quality Health Foundation to purchase this refrigerator,” said Alex Handy, President of SVDP. “This will allow us to keep perishables for a longer period of time to get more food in the hands of those who are hungry,” added Kathy Weaver, Director of the Food Pantry.
QHF annually awards grants to organizations serving those who are uninsured, underinsured, and underserved in Maryland and the District of Columbia. “These groups often contribute to higher health care costs due to poor education, neglected chronic health issues, and/or frequent emergency room visits,” said Board Chair, Dr. Mary B. Burgoyne. “QHF provides these grants to organizations that demonstrate consistency with our mission of creating solutions to transform health. We are excited to be able to support their efforts and greatly appreciate the service that they provide to needy families and individuals in Talbot County.”
Since 2006, QHF has awarded more than $4,000,000 to organizations in the region.
